Minyip grain grower Ryan Milgate will take on the role of Victorian Farmers Federation president from June 2, as the only nominee for the top job.

He will be joined by Ballan livestock producer Scott Young as VFF vice-president.

He said the VFF had been through a rough patch, but current president Brett Hosking had done an incredible job getting them to where they were now and regaining members’ trust.

As for the future, he said apart from the immediate issues of access to fuel and fertiliser, the VFF needed to keep pushing the state government on road funding and protecting land use rights in the face of the renewables rush, transmission line carve-ups and mining.

Mr Hosking said the time was right to pass the baton to the next generation of VFF leaders.

“I’m proud of what we’ve achieved together and the strong voice we’ve maintained for our members on the issues that matter most,” Mr Hosking said.

“I wish all incoming representatives every success in their roles and have no doubt the organisation will continue to go from strength to strength under their leadership.

“I would like to thank our members and farmers right throughout Victoria for their support over the past few years. They are what makes being a farmer the best job in the world and it’s been a pleasure representing them during my time as president,” he said.

Mr Milgate and Mr Young will begin their tenures following the 2026 VFF conference in Ballarat on Tuesday, June 2.
